Saivo Niejta

Inspired my Saami mythology, the Saivo Niejta performance explores the connection between the classical myths and contemporary life and the desire to go back to Nature and hear its voice. This ten-minute performance takes place in the open air around an old tree. The central performer, tied to the tree by the other two participants, talks to it, tries to hear its replies and in this way manages to run away from today’s reality and learn the truth. The headphones which the central performer wears are symbolic of contemporary postmodern society dominated by artificial sounds and manipulated information. They stand for the mythological media reality in which we live nowadays and which is unconsciously shaped according to the classical myths of the past.
